JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Green Mountain College 70-56 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Wednesday evening.
The Badgers drop to 7-11 (4-8 NAC) on the season while the Eagles move to 7-10 (5-8 NAC)
Johnson opened the game with a three-pointer from Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) in the team's first possession. Green Mountain followed that with a 14-3 run over a span of seven minutes capped by a three by De Shaun Carr to open up an early 14-6 lead. A Robert Dubose Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) jumper at the 11:49 mark brought the Badgers to within 14-10, but the Eagles closed out the half holding the Badgers to 29.6 percent from the field and outscored them 16-9 to take a 30-19 lead into halftime.
The teams traded baskets for the first ten minutes of the second half with the score remaining an 11-point differential in favor of the Eagles. A pair of 6-0 runs sandwiched around two free throws from Johnson's Slade put the Eagles up by 21, their largest lead in the game, at the 5:27 mark. After switching to a full court press in the later stages of the game, Johnson was able to create some turnovers and easy transition buckets, but had too much of a deficit to overcome and the Eagles cruised down the stretch to a 70-56 victory.
