JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team fell to Green Mountain College by a score of 88-50.
The Badgers faced adversity early as the Green Mountain College Eagles came out to a strong start. The Eagles came out strong scoring the first 6 points of the game. Donell Shaw (Washington, DC) countered with a 3 pointer of his own to put the Badgers on the board. Shaw continued with a made free throw and a made layup to put the Badgers within four points of the Eagles. The Eagles defense was impressive deflecting shots and turning the Badgers over multiple times allowing them to go on a 16-0 run in the first half. The Eagles finished out the half up by a score of 48-27.
The second half was no different. Forced turnovers off of good defensive play by both teams, led to low scoring early on in the second half. However, the Eagles defense would ignite their offense yet again. Greg Alexander and Alex Sanchez both contributed 15 for the Eagles. Donell Shaw and freshman Winston Jones (Los Angeles, CA) both scored 11 points for the game. Jones added five rebounds and shot 50% (3-6) from behind the arc.
The Badgers collected 26 rebounds while the Eagles collected 45. The Eagles shot a game best 52% from the field and were harassing on defense. The Badgers turned the ball over 25 times. With the win Green Mountain college improves to 3-1 and the Badgers fall to 0-5 on the season. The Badgers head into North Atlantic Conference play this weekend. The Badgers will host Maine Maritime Academy on Friday, November 30th at 5:30pm and Husson University on Saturday, December 1st at 1:00pm.
