JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team defeated Southern Vermont College on Tuesday afternoon. The Badgers tied the single season wins' record since Johnson joined the NCAA with their 8th win of the season.
Rob Buonanno (Wolcott, Vt.) lifted the Badgers with two goals in the win against Southern Vermont. Buonanno's first goal of the game came in the 10th minute of play. The goal was assisted by sophomore Elliott Hanna (Milton, Vt.). The Badgers controlled the defensive end and had a steady offensive attack with 8 shots on goal in the first half. The Badgers finished the first half with a 1-0 lead.
Going into the second half the Mountaineers started strong. They had an early shot on goal with a save by senior goalkeeper Gerrit Lane (Moretown,Vt.). Buonanno got another opportunity and capitalized on an unassisted goal in the 50th minute of play.
Southern Vermont's Jared Lacoste was fouled in the box in the 57th minute. Lacoste was awarded a penalty kick to put the Mountaineers on the board. The shot struck towards the left corner of the goal but Gerrit Lane dove and made the save.
Gerrit Lane played the entire game in goal for the Badgers. He recorded 3 saves.
