NORTHFIELD, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's tennis were edged by SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers dropped the conference match by a score of 8-1.
The Badgers had their lineup back in order after last week's match against Norwich University, but it wasn't enough in doubles action as Austin Walters and John Folsom were edged by the Broncos No.1 doubles duo by a score of 8-3. Chris Balogh and Mike Zerniake outplayed the Badger's Colin Compagna and Trevor Newton winning by a score of 8-2. Kenneth Chandler and Donell Shaw had the closest outcome throughout doubles play as they fell in the final rallies by a score of 8-5.
Walters set the tone early in singles action as he defeated Marcos Andrino in a deciding set after the two split by a score of 0-6, 6-4. Walters win was the only win of the afternoon for the Badgers. Folsom dropped his singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Newton in No.3 singles and Shaw in No.6 forced tiebreaking opportunities but ultimately fell in singles play.
With the loss the Badgers fall to 0-5 on the season. They will travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a conference match on Sunday, April 7 at 1:00pm.
