The Badgers battled but fell 100-70 to a strong Plymouth State team on Tuesday night, despite a strong second-half push led by Joseph Gargiulo and Marty Askenazi.
SUMMARY
Johnson opened the game with Drew Phillips scoring two quick layups to keep the Badgers close to even at 5-4. Following a 13-0 Plymouth State run, Johnson responded with a Greg Fitzgerald three-pointer and layups from Jaylen Brown and Mohammed Semega, trimming the deficit to 24-13. The Panthers would close the half strong, hitting threes at 4:48 and 1:53 to push the margin to 49-30 at the break.
Plymouth struck first in the second half to extend the lead to 55-33. Johnson fought back as Marty Askenazi drilled a three at 19:38, followed by a Semega layup and Gargiulo attacking the rim to make it 65-40 midway through the half. Gargiulo buried a three at 8:50 and Askenazi added another at 5:32 to keep the Badgers battling. In the closing minutes, Tre Bradley knocked down a jumper and Phillips scored the final basket with 48 seconds left but was not enough to even the score as Plymouth took the victory 100-70.
